One Simple Way To Keep Your Home Safe This Summer
Good weather is on the rise and so is crime. We often get accustomed to the feelings of safety and privacy in our home. We head to work with the confidence our home and possessions are safely locked away. This is until we experience a breach in our privacy and it is already too late. It gives you a relentless sense of uncertainty and vulnerability. Earlier this spring I experienced just that.
It was a normal Tuesday morning. I woke up, got ready for work, fed and said goodbye to my puppy and kitten, locked the door and parted ways with my partner for work. Little did I know, my animals were going to witness an attempted burglary. When I got home the dog was hysterical and the door knob was crushed from someone attempting a forced entry with some kind of a wrench. We felt violated and were uneasy the next few days. Finally, we decided something needed to be done to ensure the safety of our home and pets.
When you see burglars on TV or in the movies they are always lurking in the shadows and breaking into houses in the middle of the night. In reality 65% to 75% of household robberies occur during the day when you’re at work or out and about. There was something we needed to do to be able to monitor our home while at work without having to pay an arm and a leg in monthly fees for home security. That is when we turned to the Internet of Things and installed Connect Sense security sensors and an IP camera.
With the Connect Sense security sensor we are able to set a rule to notify us via text message and email if our front door is breached during work hours. If this occurs we can pull up our camera feed and start recording while we get on the phone with the police. The notifications are convenient because we do not have to constantly check in, but we still get the peace of mind and confidence that everything is okay at home. I wish we would have installed this system earlier but we, like many others, waited until an incident had already occurred. I feel much safer knowing that I am now prepared for any potential security issues in the future.
